Known as the Silk City, Paterson, New Jersey is a city rich in history dating back to the American industrial revolution. Today, Paterson's historical sites can be found woven in among all of the sights, tastes, and sounds of a contemporary, multicultural setting. Paterson's past includes ties to American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton and other American industrialists. This history is celebrated in the city's many historic landmarks and museums. The Old Great Falls Historic District is an area of neighborhoods and parklands located alongside the Passaic River and Garret Mountain – home to Paterson’s two National Natural Landmarks, Garret Mountain and the Great Falls of the Passaic. The Falls is not only a spectacular natural attraction, but it also gained historical significance during the commencement of the American Industrial Revolution by supplying water power to the nation’s first manufacturing center.
In downtown Paterson, there is People's Park that offers a wide variety of retail shops catering to a diverse clientele. The Downtown Broadway Bus Terminal is the terminus for NJ Transit bus lines to Newark and to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City, only 10 miles away. In addition to sightseeing opportunities such as the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building; the world most well-known theaters, museums, clubs, and restaurants are just minutes from Paterson, and can be accessed by car, bus, or train.
Paterson is also in close proximity to several major sporting venues such as, the Meadowlands, (home of the New York Giants, the New York Jets, and the New York Red Bulls), the new Yankee Stadium, and the Mets' new Citi Field. The PNC Bank Arts Center boasts several concerts and shows throughout the year, as does The New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark and the many venues in nearby cities like Millburn and Montclair. You can get to Philadelphia in only 90 minutes by either car or rail, and the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania are only an hour north. During the summer months, the Jersey Shore is the main source beachside entertainment and in autumn Northern New Jersey offers countless opportunities for apple and pumpkin picking, as well as hiking and wildlife exploration. Arts and other entertainment programs can be found in the area all year round.
In this very diverse city with a population of nearly 150,000 residents, it's no surprise the city boasts every type of cuisine from fine Middle Eastern fare to the comforts of your favorite Latin American dish. A walk down Paterson's Main Street will lead to a variety of shops, grocers, and restaurants to satisfy almost any palate. Paterson is surely a community committed to sustaining a colorful modern culture while still preserving the treasures of its past.






Hotels on hospital campuses are normally very successful and are a great benefit to the hospital, as it adds flexibility to their business model. However, it wasn't long before budget constraints caused the hotel to be eliminated. It was at this point that as a thank you for all that St. Joseph's had done for Medical Missions for Children, Frank Brady the Founder and Chairman of MMC elected to build the hotel for the hospital.
